Security CenterAccount login ≠ message unlock

Passkeys & message recovery

Signing into your FC1 account is not the same as recovering encrypted message keys. Passkeys (with PRF where supported) and recovery codes help unlock history on a new device.

Account access vs message keys

Account authentication

Password, session, or passkey sign-in proves who you are to FC1 identity systems.

Message-key recovery

Encrypted history needs device keys, an enrolled passkey PRF unwrap, a recovery code, or another trusted device — not password reset alone.

Practical guidance

What to do

  • Save your recovery code when prompted — FC1 cannot read it.
  • Enroll passkey auto-recovery on a device you control when the product offers it.
  • Keep at least one trusted device active before replacing your phone.
  • “Start fresh” abandons undecryptable history rather than inventing a server-side backdoor.
